Lies – The Character Defining Metric

It has become socially acceptable to lie in order to reach your intended goal.

Society endures the lies under the irrational presumption that once a person has reached his/her goal, they will turn into an angel serving the greater good. Others don’t care, because business transactions are made based on lies, the media profits on lies, the entertainment industry sells lustful lies, the church are complicit in preaching lies through omission and ultimately we lie to ourselves about our spiritual wellbeing.

Somehow society have “progressed” to a place where lies aren’t deemed dangerous or evil. It is seen as a lesser sin that does no real harm and therefor does not require much attention. This can’t be further from the truth.

Satan destroyed man-kind’s relationship with God, placing the burden of a sinful nature on every child that is born. He achieved this feat through a lie. Modern science reveals that some DNA “triggers” are set by our minds. The decisions that parents make can be passed on to their children. Our sinful character traits can start our children’s lives off with a handicap. Through a lie, Satan set off a chain reaction with eternal consequences.

Lies ripped the pinnacle of creation from God’s presence. The God that created the universe and everything in it does not regard lies lightly, because He understands the consequences.

“Yes, seven [things] are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren [through lies]” – Proverbs 6:16-19

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.” – Proverbs 12:22

“…and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:8

“And the tongue [which utters lies] is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell” – James 3:6

Contrary to what some may like us to belief, words are not insulated from character, it forms it. God’s Word says it stains the whole body and sets the course of our lives – also our eternal destiny.

Lies are a destructive force in our personal and collective lives. We are at a critical junction in modern history. You are not missing something if you think that common sense [truth] is an extinct term and that the trend is distinctly downwards.

We need to be wise, return to the truth and stop entertaining lies.

Do not believe those that proclaim God and His Word is a lie. Do not believe those that allege that, if you eat from their “fruit of short term gratification”, you will become like a god. Do not believe those that tell you that it doesn’t matter what you do in this life. Do not believe those who question the goodness of God when as a society we have grown ignorant of His truths and refuse to abide by them.

Know this. The burden of sin has been put on us all by a lie. Satan has not changed his strategy. The truth is that our lives are but a split second on the clock of eternity spanning eons. In this “split second” we have the opportunity to choose to free ourselves from the burdens of sin or indulge in the lie.

Those who repent and accept the God’s grace through Jesus Christ will live forever with the Father where there will be no tears and no pain. Those who choose the father of lies (Satan) will spend eternity wishing that they didn’t reject the source of all that is good.

It is not too late to rebuild the foundation of truth.

Have a blessed week.
